Code of Conduct

All participants in the mentorship program are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct:

● Respect the confidentiality of all information shared during the mentorship relationship.

● Maintain professional and courteous behavior in all interactions.

● Avoid any form of discrimination or harassment.

● Uphold the values of AWinS, including empowerment, encouragement, and equity.

The mentorship program will be evaluated quarterly to assess its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. The evaluation will include feedback from mentees, mentors, and the AWinS leadership team.

By adhering to these internal rules, AWinS can ensure that its mentorship program is productive, respectful, and aligned with its mission of empowering and encouraging women in STEM.

MentorMentee
Being an African woman who has lived in an African country for at least five years.
● Willing to commit to a mentorship relationship for the duration of the program.
● Share their knowledge and skills with their mentee, helping them learn new concepts, techniques, and best practices.
● Encourage and motivate the mentees to pursue their goals, overcome obstacles, and stay focused on their personal and professional development.
● Provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment where the mentees feel comfortable expressing themselves.
● Able to provide constructive feedback and guidance to the mentee.
● Sharing the vision of AWinS and desire to act as a role model for the next generation.

African women pursuing or with an interest in pursuing a career in STEM.
● Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in STEM field in Africa (or elsewhere).
● Demonstrate a passion for STEM and a drive to solve Africa’s challenges.
● Serious-minded individuals with clear expectation and plans
● Willing to commit to a mentorship relationship for the duration of the Program.
● Should have clear goals and objectives for participating in the mentorship program. They should be able to articulate what they hope to gain from the mentoring relationship and how they plan to apply the knowledge and skills acquired.
● Mentees should demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and respect for their mentor, fellow mentees, and the mentorship program staff. They should adhere to any codes of conduct or ethical guidelines established by the organization.
Meet with their mentees regularly to discuss their progress and goals.
● Provide constructive feedback and guidance to their mentees.
● Encourage their mentees to achieve their goals.
● Be available to support their mentees in any way they can.
Attend regular meetings with their mentors.
● Actively participate in the mentorship program.
● Communicate with their mentors regularly.
● Seek feedback and guidance from their mentors. Send monthly reports on agreed indicators.
